BitShard – PC Review

You most likely know of the PC I built the other day called “BitShard”. For gaming it is great, some people would call it overkill. Because for gaming all you need is a i5 and i have used a i7, and you don’t need 16GB of ram you can run games fine in 8GB-4GB. But I built the system for rendering. For rendering the system has performed much much better than the system I was using before.

The boot time is ~25s to the desktop in win8 (inc. password).
Shutdown time ~10s from all apps running to power LED off.
Rendering 10 min of footage with Pr Pro using the H.264 encoder @ 720p to mp4 took 3 min.
I got 84 fps using FurMark bench test @720p for 1 min.
And the cpu runs at 74°C @100% with the Noctua NH-L9i.
I am very happy with the result of the build and the pure speed of it.

The windows 8 experience is really not as bad as people say it is, i will say that when it switches you over to metro to watch a video it is really not all that bad but I would much prefer it if you could just stay in the single desktop mode. I have installed start8 and it does help with removing the most of the metro experience. Unlike classic start  it suits win 8′s theme which I quite like, also I did not like classic start’s approach at the start button.

I am so happy to just boot up my system and have no bloatware that asks you to do this and install this. For my Music player I use FooBar2000 which is a great piece of software. It starts up on demand unlike itunes. plus when you set it up so that it resumes where you were playing  there is no need to hit the stop button. you can just close the application to pause which can be done easier than pausing because you don’t need to enter the application, then just reopen the application to play. In web browsing the system is ridiculous Chrome open instantly and so do tabs. Plus most of the time the internet is fast enough to load the page instantly as well.

Overall the system looks very nice from the outside, inside and in the OS. It is lighting fast at the basic things like web browsing, playing music etc. When It comes to Video Editing it runs smoothly and is quite quiet. Last is when gaming I have by far gotten more than 30fps during testing I have gotten 400 fps. So I am very happy with the result.
